Iceland works with more than 300 suppliers to produce the unique, innovative Iceland range of high quality food, and to meet our customers’ demand for leading manufacturers’ branded food, drink and household products.
We are a fast-moving, informal, approachable business with a strong family culture and a proud track record as one of the Best Big Companies to Work For in the UK. In our approach to buying, we also aim to be one of the best and easiest food retailers for suppliers to deal with. To this end, we have worked hard to make trading with Iceland as simple as possible, both by streamlining our terms of business and increasing the transparency of our payments process.
We have built mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with many suppliers, and helped a number of small enterprises to become major players in the food industry during our nearly 50 years in business.
We asked leading food suppliers in each of our major categories – frozen food, fresh food and groceries – how they rate their experience of working with Iceland:
Laila Remtulla MBE, Founder & Joint Managing Director, Laila’s Fine Foods
Phil Sanders, Britvic
Neil Campbell, Warburtons
Iceland is a growing business, opening new stores under The Food Warehouse fascia at the rate of 25 per year, and extending our customer appeal through the refurbishment of our core Iceland stores, our award-winning Online service, and our Power of Frozen marketing campaign. We will always need more good suppliers, who share our commitment to quality and value, to support this growth. We are particularly keen to forge new relationships with creative businesses developing exciting new products, whether for our Iceland own label or under their brands.
Since innovation is the lifeblood of our business, we are pleased to consider new ideas from companies that have not supplied us before. If you have a great idea that you would like to share with us, or believe that you could fill a gap in our existing range, please contact us via firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Please bear in mind, though, that our core Iceland stores are relatively small, so that every line we stock has to earn its place by having the potential to generate meaningful sales. We aim for breadth rather than depth of range, and each new product we decide to stock is likely to mean the removal of a line from our existing range. Our larger stores under The Food Warehouse fascia give us the opportunity to offer a wider range there, and to conduct trials of new products before committing to their roll-out across the entire 900 store Iceland estate.
As a food producer ourselves through our Iceland Manufacturing Limited business we have a keen understanding of the issues and pressures that our food suppliers may encounter, and aim to help them resolve them sympathetically and co-operatively.
We aim to treat all our suppliers fairly, and to fulfil all our obligations under the Groceries Code. Our aim is simplicity: an agreed price with no hidden costs or charges, and payment in full on our agreed terms. We do not charge suppliers for own label artwork or origination. Nor do we charge for customer complaints. When we commit to purchase a quantity of a product we will take it on the dates we have said we will. Our Supplier Portal, launched in 2016, enables suppliers to track their invoices online, and gives them the option to request expedited payment. We have a dedicated helpline for supplier invoice or payment queries on 01244 842975 or by email to email@example.com
